R.I.P. “Firefly” & “Miller” Actor Ron Glass

Ron Glass, best known by fandom for playing Shepherd Book on the acclaimed Joss Whedon western space series “Firefly”, has passed away at the age of 71. No other details have been released at this time.

Glass was a well-known movie and TV actor famous for his role as Detective Ron Harris on “Barney Miller” which led to him scoring an Emmy nomination. More recently he was known to a generation as the compassionate and thoughtful Shepherd on “Firefly” and its film sequel “Serenity”.

Other film work includes “Lakeview Terrace,” “Death at a Funeral,” and “It’s My Party” along with countless TV appearances: “Friends,” “The Practice,” “The Division,” “CSI: NY,” “Major Crimes,” “Murder She Wrote,” “The Streets of San Francisco,” “Maude,” “Agents of Shield,” “Shark,” “Star Trek: Voyager,” “Hawaii Five-O,” “All in the Family,” “Designing Women,” “The Twilight Zone,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” “Sanford and Son,” “Good Times,” “Hart to Hart,” “Aladdin” and “Superman: The Animated Series”.

Glass was also a leader in the California Buddhist community, and served as a member of Soka Gakkai International.
