AMC closed out the first season of its comic book adaptation “Preacher” this past Sunday night with the network announcing that the show has become the #2 new cable drama of 2016 – behind only FX’s “American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson”.
The first season of the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-produced “Preacher” averaged three million viewers per episode. Fans had complained about the show being quite different from the comic, but as the season unfurled it became clear this first season was effectively a prequel.
Indeed Sunday’s final episode effectively set up the second season as beginning from the point where the comics began as Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun’s characters begin their road trip to find an absentee God while Graham McTavish’s killer is in pursuit.
“Preacher” will return for a second season next year and all ten episodes of season one are currently available on AMC.com for the next two months.
