Jake Gyllenhaal and Conde Nast Entertainment are teaming to produce the true-crime thriller “Gilded Rage” with Charlie McDowell (“The One I Love”) set to write and direct.
Based on Benjamin Wallace’s series of Vanity Fair articles from April 2015, the story deals with the infamous murder of wealthy investment banker Thomas Gilbert Sr. by his son, the 6’3 blonde and blue-eyed Thomas Gilbert Jr. who felt he could never please his father. When said dad was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police strongly suspected the son.
Said son eventually pled not guilty to second-degree murder and has resisted subsequent plea deals, while his mother is footing the bill for his defense which continues to this day.
Gyllenhaal, Jeremy Steckler and Riva Marker will produce and there are no plans for the “Nightcrawler” and “Velvet Buzzsaw” actor to star… for now. Filming aims to begin later this year in New York, but will depend on casting.
