Speaking with Geoff Keighley via YouTube Live at E3 this past week, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford offered an update on how film adaptations of some of their titles like “Borderlands” and “Duke Nukem” are progressing. Not much is happening with the former, but Pitchford says the latter is progressing well:
“We’re working on Duke Nukem! I can’t announce it, but it’s blown my mind, there’s been a lot of production companies have come at us. We’re putting together a deal right now with a major motion picture studio; I’ll tell you off the record if you want to know. It’s the exact right people that should be doing a Duke Nukem film and we’ll see what happens. It’s unbelievable, I think that’s very likely a thing.”
Development on a film adaptation began back in the 1990s with the film coming close to a production start in 2009. At that point in time, Gearbox Software took over the video game franchise and the film version stalled for years before finally taking off again recently.
