Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Baywatch,” “Aquaman”) and Sara Vickers (“The Alienist,” “The Crown”) have joined the “Watchmen” pilot at HBO, the pair joining hot on the heels of other casting announcements yesterday including “Sleepy Hollow” star Tom Mison.
Damon Lindelof serves as executive producer on the series based on Alan Moore’s iconic twelve-issue mini-series from 1986, a murder-mystery which leads into a planet-altering conspiracy that ultimately asks where the fine line is drawn between heroes and villains.
The new “Watchmen” isn’t a straight adaptation of the comics, rather an original story with new faces and unknown characters introduced into the universe. Speculation is high though that one of the previously announced cast members, Jeremy Irons, will be playing a familiar character – possibly a now older Adrian Veidt.
Regina King, Don Johnson, Louis Gossett Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Frances Fisher, and Jacob Ming-Trent also star while Nicole Kassell will executive produce and direct the pilot.
