Previously rumored, it is now official – Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis will direct and co-write Disney’s live-action remake of their animated classic “Pinocchio”.
The original 1940 Disney film follows a wooden puppet, his father-creator Geppetto and the former’s quest to become a real boy.
Zemeckis and Chris Weitz will co-write the next draft and things are moving hastily along with production potentially kicking off by year’s end. Casting is still being determined while Andrew Miano and Weitz are producing.
Disney has multiple dates set aside for untitled live-action features throughout 2021-2023 and so the film could open on any one of those. Their immediate next live-action reboot to hit screens is “Mulan” on March 27th.
