Several weeks before the first part of its second season hits the streaming service, it has been confirmed that Netflix has renewed its highly popular “Addams Family” reinvention “Wednesday” for a third season.
Director Tim Burton and star Jenna Ortega revealed the news in a new interview with THR, confirming that not just another season has been ordered, but adding that a spin-off series is also in early discussions.
The pair was asked to reflect on the first season, specifically on what worked well and what didn’t. Ortega replied:
“Netflix has a lot more trust this time around. We were therefore able to undertake projects on a grander scale and allocate more time to sequences. There are also a lot of new cast members like Steve Buscemi and Billie Piper, and doing a scene with them pushes you further because they’re so gifted.
We also play on the excitement that Wednesday got from having saved the school in the first season. So it’s nice to see her shut down again out of pure agony [from the attention].”
Burton was also asked about Warner Bros. Pictures co-chief Michael De Luca, saying back in April that development on “Beetlejuice 3” is starting ‘imminently’. That’s news to Burton, who responded: “Really? Nobody told me. Maybe I’ve been replaced.”
“Wednesday” Season 2 will be spread over two parts. The first launches August 6th, the second four weeks later on September 3rd.
