Story Kitchen and poncle founder Luca Galante are teaming to turn comedic gothic horror video game and viral sensation “Vampire Survivors” into an animated television series.
Described as Vox Machina meets Castlevania, the game is set in 2021 in rural Italy, with the action following the members of the Belpaese Family who set out to end the reign of terror of Bisconte Draculó.
Players control an automatically attacking character while fighting against continuous waves of monsters, aiming to survive the onslaught for as long as possible. The game has won numerous awards and was Steam’s highest-rated video game of 2022.
A search is underway for a writer with the project then being shopped to animated TV network buyers. Galante says in a statement:
“The most important thing in Vampire Survivors is the story, so it’s a dream come true to see what started as a little indie game I made on my weekends come to life as an animated TV show.
It’s also great to be partnering up with such experienced and talented people to make the show. I do wonder if they’ve realized that there isn’t a single vampire in Vampire Survivors, though.”
Story Kitchen was founded by “John Wick” writer/creator Derek Kolstad, “Sonic the Hedgehog” producer Dmitri M. Johnson and former agent Mike Goldberg.
This marks just the latest game-to-TV adaptation in the works at the company, others being “Tomb Raider” and “Splinter Cell” at Netflix; “Toejam and Earl” and “It Takes Two” at Amazon; and “Streets of Rage” at Lionsgate.
