Universal Lands “Obsession” Director’s Next

Focus Features

Universal Film Group and Blumhouse Atomic Monster have reportedly won “Obsession” filmmaker Curry Barker’s next project in a rich eight-figure deal, says THR.

Barker will write, produce and direct the project, which will mark his third film for Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal following “Obsession” and his second film “Anything But Ghosts”.

‘Ghosts’ has already been shot and Barker wrote, directed and stars in that film, which will be released through Universal’s Focus Features label.

After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, Blumhouse Atomic Monster boarded “Obsession” and is a full production company on “Anything But Ghosts” and Barker’s third film.

The new movie is said to be an original horror idea, but further specifics are under wraps other than Barker made a pitch to Universal’s top execs, and they jumped for it.

Roy Lee and Steven Schneider’s Spooky Pictures, and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath’s Divide/Conquer have both boarded the project.

“Obsession” has become Focus Features’ highest-grossing release of all time and is on track to surpass $300 million worldwide this weekend.
