Warrior Cats
Disney has picked up an animated series adaptation of Coolabi’s feline book series “Warrior Cats” which follows the adventures of multiple clans of feral cats. The series will hit Disney+ and The Disney Channel in 2028 with Emmy-winner Rodrigo Blaas (“Finding Nemo”) directing.
Penned by a team of people using the pseudonym Erin Hunter, the books have sold more than 90 million copies. “Warrior Cats” also generates 50 million views per month across user-generated content on YouTube and nearly 3 billion views on TikTok. [Source: Variety]
Starman
Emmy winner Jeff Daniels is joining Brendan Fraser in the cosmic sci-fi thriller Starman which Josh Wakely is writing and directing. Filming begins this Summer.
Daniels will play Ed Watkins, the protective and powerful co-leader of a company he built alongside visionary technologist Tom Adams (Fraser). Adams launches a historic expedition to Mars, but unforeseen events strand him millions of miles from Earth, his mission becomes an urgent race against time. [Source: Deadline]
Ryan Coogler
Netflix has announced a multi-year creative partnership with Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media Television company. Under the deal, the company will exclusively develop new series for Netflix. Proximity previously developed “Ironheart” and “Eyes of Wakanda” for Disney+ and is currently co-producing pilots for “The X-Files” series reboot at Hulu and the comic adaptation “Southern Bastards”. Hellmask
Glenn Danzig, frontman for The Misfits, will direct a film adaptation of his own comic “Hellmask”. James Cullen Bressack will produce and filming is slated to kick off in August.
The story is set against a brutal medieval backdrop filled with dark magic, armored warriors and massive bloody battle scenes. It follows a violent supernatural tale steeped in gothic atmosphere. [Source: THR]
Klara and the Sun
The first photos have been released from filmmaker Taika Waititi’s new film “Klara And The Sun” starring Jenna Ortega as a solar-powered Artificial Friend named Klara purchased by a mother (Amy Adams) as a companion for her ailing daughter, Josie (Mia Tharia).
It then explores Klara’s bond with Josie and her belief that the sun might help heal the family. Waititi and Dahvi Waller co-wrote the script. “Klara And The Sun” opens in cinemas on October 23rd.
