UK Lockdown Shuts Cinemas For Xmas

The UK government is set to place London into Tier 3 lockdown, the country’s strictest coronavirus tier, from Wednesday December 16th following a spike in positive cases.

This means businesses, including cinemas, will need to close again – the closures following a four-week nationwide lockdown lifted just the other week and replaced by a three-tier system.

The UK Cinema Association says the move, which shuts down cinemas during one of their busiest periods of the year, will be ‘devastating’ for its members.

They add that cinemas are being harshly treated in comparison with other businesses and with the safety measures in place they should be allowed to resume business regardless of the tier.

The lockdown arrives the same day Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984” was slated to open in the UK.
