Ubisoft Plans Open World “Star Wars” Game

Lucasfilm Games and Ubisoft are set to collaborate on a new story-driven, open-world “Star Wars” game.

The project is being handled by Swedish-based Massive Entertainment, the developer behind the “Tom Clancy’s The Division” and “World in Conflict” games who also worked on “Far Cry 3” and “Assassin’s Creed Revelations”.

The team will be led by David Polfeldt and the creative director, Julian Gerighty, with the title to be developed in the company’s Snowdrop game engine.

The announcement follows in the wake of Lucasfilm Games announcing this week plans to allow developers of all sorts to work with the company on their IP, along with a new “Indiana Jones” game being in the works.

Despite the change in approach, Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly says they still have a number of projects underway with Electronic Arts who have been releasing titles like the problematic “Star Wars: Battlefront” series, the well received “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” and the rather limp “Star Wars: Squadrons”.
