“Twisters” Helmer Set For “Ocean’s 11” Prequel

Universal Pictures

Oscar-nominated “Minari” and “Twisters” filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung is in talks to direct the “Ocean’s 11” prequel for Warner Bros. Pictures and LuckyChap Entertainment.

The current screenplay for the film has been penned by Carrie Solomon and is based on characters created by George Clayton Johnson & Jack Golden Russell.

The project was first announced three years ago and is said to be set in 1960s Europe. The project isn’t a reboot; rather, it would connect to and incorporate elements from the original film and work within established continuity.

Margot Robbie remains attached to produce the project. Ryan Gosling entered early negotiations to co-star in the film several years ago, with reports suggesting the “Barbie” pair will play the parents of Danny and Debbie Ocean (George Clooney, Sandra Bullock).

Jay Roach was initially set to direct, but filming was delayed by the strikes and scheduling conflicts, with little momentum since. No cast deals are presently in place and the film is still considered to be in early development.

Chung also directed notable episodes of “The Mandalorian” and “Skeleton Crew”.
