The Mosquito Coast
Melissa George (“Alias”), Gabriel Bateman (“Child’s Play”) and Logan Polish (“The Astronaut Farmer”) are set to star alongside Justin Theroux in the Apple TV+ drama series “Mosquito Coast” which hails from “Luther” creator Neil Cross, filmmaker Rupert Wyatt and is based on the novel by Justin’s uncle Paul Theroux.

The story follows Allie, an idealist who uproots his family to Latin America, only for them to lose everything. The trio will play the other members of the family. Peter Weir helmed the previous film version which starred Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix. [Source: Deadline]

Tortall Universe
Lionsgate and Playground Entertainment have optioned the rights to Tamora Pierce’s fantasy book series “Tortall Universe” with plans to adapt it for television. Producers are currently on the lookout for a showrunner.

Spanning almost two dozen texts over the past four decades, the story is set in a fictional fantasy world filled with princesses, knights, magicians, warring factions, and more. It’s been widely lauded for being inclusive in a genre that often isn’t. [Source: Deadline]

His Dark Materials
HBO launched its “His Dark Materials” series on Monday night with the fantasy show pulling in 700,000 total viewers across all the premium cabler’s platforms. That marks the best Monday premiere across all platforms since “Chernobyl” in May. In addition, the network released a ‘In the Weeks Ahead’ trailer which can be seen below:

Untitled Workers Strike Film
TNT is reportedly in the process of developing a new untitled hour-long drama series about a labor union strike. Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay (“When They See Us,” “Selma”) will executive produce while Kat Candler (“Queen Sugar,” “Hellion”) will pen the series.

The story follows the aftermath of a deadly oil refinery explosion in Texas. Losing an old friend to the incident, a struggling young wife and mother will go on to lead one of the biggest labor union strikes in the state’s history. The project is essentially a modern-day take on the 1979 film “Norma Rae” starring Sally Field. [Source: Deadline]

Hulu has released the official trailer for the upcoming hyper-noir revenge drama series “Reprisal” starring Abigail Spencer. The former “Timeless” star plays a relentless femme fatale who, after being left for dead, leads a vengeful campaign against a bombastic gang of gearheads. Rodrigo Santoro, Mena Massoud, Rhys Wakefield, David Dastmalchian, W. Earl Brown and Madison Davenport co-star and the series premieres December 6th.
