Craig Gillespie (“I, Tonya,” “The Finest Hours”) is in talks to direct “Cruella,” the live-action version of “101 Dalmatians,” at Disney Pictures.
Emma Stone is attached to play Cruella de Vil, the woman who covets the furs of the pups needed to give her the perfect coat. Jez Butterworth penned the script while Marc Platt, Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr are the producers.
“Mozart in the Jungle” co-creator Alex Timbers was to direct but has left as Disney wants to start production sooner than it expected with pre-production to begin immediately and filming kicking off next year.
Timber is busy with Broadway stage versions of “Beetlejuice” and “Moulin Rouge” through until July, which knocks him off the list. Gillespie, who is developing the “Thelma” remake, has an opening and Disney hopes to snatch him up.
