“The Glorias” Ditching Theatrical For Amazon

Plans for a theatrical release of the Julie Taymor-directed “The Glorias” have been ditched with the film heading straight to Amazon Prime Video where it will stream exclusively along with being available for electronic sell-through – all starting September 30th.

The road trip feature chronicles the life of iconic activist Gloria Steinem with Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander, Lulu Wilson and Ryan Kiera Armstrong playing Steinem at different points in her life across five decades.

The film also features a number of iconic women who had a profound influence on Gloria and the women’s movement including Dorothy Pitman Hughes (Janelle Monae), Flo Kennedy (Lorraine Toussaint), Bella Abzug (Bette Midler), Dolores Huerta (Monica Sanchez) and Wilma Mankiller (Kimberly Guerrero).

The film debuted at Sundance earlier this year and was acquired by Roadside Attractions and LD Entertainment for a planned September 25th theatrical release. The shift allows the film to reach the widest possible audience prior to the 2020 U.S. election.

Taymor co-wrote the film with Sarah Ruhl.
