CBS

Former Broadway and TV producer/manager turned actor Jerry Adler has died. He was 96.

Adler was considering retirement when he was cast in the 1992 thriller “The Public Eye” which led to him becoming an in-demand character actor.

Adler most famously played the loan shark Hesh Rabkin, something of an advisor to James Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano across all six seasons of HBO’s “The Sopranos”.

He was also well known for playing fire chief Sidney Feinberg in FX’s “Rescue Me,” and the ‘not entirely there’ senior partner Howard Lyman on CBS’ “The Good Wife”.

His film credits include the likes of Woody Allen’s “Manhattan Murder Mystery,” J.C. Chandor’s “A Most Violent Year” and Andrew Ahn’s “Driveways”.

His cousin was Stella Adler, one of the most prominent acting teachers in U.S. history. He also published a memoir, “Too Funny for Words,” in 2024.
