Sony Anticipating Bigger Sales For PSVR2

Sony reportedly anticipates PlayStation VR2 to have “much greater” popularity than the original PS4 set according to Bloomberg.

Sources for the publication indicate the company plans to have two million units produced by March, and with the device slated for an early 2023 launch it suggests all those units will be available for it.

To put that in perspective, the original PlayStation VR took just under 14 months to sell 2 million units so that this many are being readied for launch suggests they have much bigger goals in mind in terms of sales.

Production reportedly began in September and hasn’t yet faced supply chain constraints. In addition it’s expected the launch will coincide with expected relief of supply chain bottlenecks that have hampered PS5 console availability.

Unlike the first PSVR which required multiple complicated cables, a separate box and a camera, the PSVR 2 connects via a single USB-C cable and has onboard cameras for inside-out tracking. The price for the new system hasn’t yet been announced.
