“Sonic” Film Headed For $47M Opening

Sonic Film Headed For 47m Opening

Paramount’s film adaptation of classic Sega videogame “Sonic the Hedgehog” is headed for a $41-47 million opening over the four-day President’s Day holiday next month.

Paramount pushed the estimated $95 million production from November 8th to February 14th to fix the film’s VFX and Sonic’s appearance following numerous complaints in the wake of the first trailer.

A second trailer in November reportedly scored the highest like-to-dislike ratio on Google of any official studio trailer in the last three years – suggesting fans are very happy with the redesign.

Also opening that weekend is the Blumhouse horror spin on classic ABC series “Fantasy Island” which is looking to snag $12-16 million over the same window.
