SAG-AFTRA Prohibits Some Halloween Costumes

Warner Bros. Pictures

The actor’s union SAG-AFTRA has announced that its members should not dress up as popular characters from struck content for Halloween.

Thus actors who are members of the union will be unable to dress up as most film or TV characters and post those images on social media – no costumes like Barbie, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Wednesday Addams or Marvel superheroes are allowed.

Instead, the guild advised its members to “choose costumes inspired by generalized characters and figures – ghost, zombie, spider, etc.” though figures from non-struck content like animated TV shows are fine.

It’s presumed projects under an interim agreement with SAG-AFTRA are also presumably in bounds. Striking actors are prohibited from doing press for struck shows and films.

The announcement comes as the SAG-AFTRA strike is nearing its 100th day and talks broke off a week ago without a deal. This week came the reports that a group of A-list actors, led by George Clooney. presented a proposal to SAG-AFTRA leadership during a Zoom call in an effort to find a way to resolve the strike. A follow-up call reportedly “didn’t go well” according to the trades.
