Rosario Dawson has been cast in the lead role in the pilot for the Vertigo Comics adaptation “DMZ” at HBO Max.
Ava DuVernay is slated to direct the pilot for the series which unfolds in the isolated and sparsely populated demilitarized zone of what was once Manhattan. A second American Civil War in the near future has seen the remains of the federal government and the secessionist Free State armies holding an uneasy detente.
The series centers on a female medic on the island who is trying day-in and day-out to help keep residents alive while trying to also find her lost son. She soon proves a source of hope in an America that has lost all sense of the idea.
Showrunner and executive producer Roberto Patino (“Westworld”) is writing the pilot script while ARRAY Filmworks and Warner Bros. Television are producing. Shooting begins early 2020.
