It’s going to have one hell of a kickline.
Classic 1984 feature “The Karate Kid” is set to be developed as a musical for Broadway with the help of the film’s screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen.
Kinoshita Group, Kumiko Yoshii, and Michael Wolk will produce the stage production which Kamen is penning the book for while Drew Gasparini is writing music and lyrics.
Japanese director Amon Miyamoto will helm while MTV VMA nominees Keone and Mari Madrid will choreograph and set design will be handled by Tony winner Derek McLane.
The martial arts classic is the latest in a list of films to become Broadway musicals following the likes of “Beetlejuice,” “Tootsie,” “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Sing Street”. Stage productions of “The Devil Wears Prada,” “The Flamingo Kid,” “Bull Durham,” “Diner” and “Vacation” are also in development.
