“Roma” Tops The LA Film Critics Awards

Members of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association assembled the other day to vote on the year’s best cinematic accomplishments.

This year “Roma” was the big winner, coming in hot with best film, best cinematography and a runner-up honor for best director. Winners of their top prize in recent years includes “Call Me by Your Name,” “Moonlight,” “Spotlight,” “Boyhood,” “Her”/”Gravity” and “Amour.”

The likes of “Burning,” “Leave No Trace” and “If Beale Street Could Talk” scored multiple wins, while “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” took the best animated feature. The full list of winners is as follows:

Best Actor:

Best Actress:
Olivia Colman, “The Favourite” (Runner-up: Toni Collette, “Hereditary”)

Best Supporting Actor:
Steven Yeun, “Burning” (Runner-up: Hugh Grant, “Paddington 2”)

Best Supporting Actress:
Regina King, “If Beale Street Could Talk” (Runner-up: Elizabeth Debicki, “Widows”)

Best Screenplay:
Nicole Holofcener, Jeff Whitty, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” (Runner-up: Deborah Davis, Tony McNamara, “The Favourite”)

Best Animated Film:
“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (Runner-up: “Incredibles 2”)

Best Foreign Language Film:
“Burning” and “Shoplifters” (Tie)

Best Documentary:
“Shirkers” (Runner-up: “Minding the Gap”)

Best Cinematography:

Best Editing:
