The Father
Sony Pictures Classics has acquired U.S. and select foreign rights to the film adaptation of Florian Zeller’s play “The Father” ahead of its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival.

Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman play father and daughter in the film which also stars Mark Gatiss, Imogen Poots, Rufus Sewell and Olivia Williams. Zeller directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Christopher Hampton. [Source: Variety]

The Blackening
MRC Film and The Story Company are developing a film adaptation of the Comedy Central 2018 digital short “The Blackening” which lampoons horror films with its tale of seven African-American friends trapped in a cabin with a homicidal maniac. Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins will write a script expanding on the short while Oliver, E. Brian Dobbins, Tim Story & Sharla Sumpter Bridgett will produce. [Source: Deadline]

Untitled Xmas Themed Film
Keira Knightley and Roman Griffin Davis have been set to star in an untitled Christmas-themed feature for Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films and Maven Pictures. Camille Griffin is set to direct the film from her own script while Trudie Styler is producing. [Source: THR]

Til Death
“Luke Cage” and “Evil” star Mike Colter has joined the cast of Aharon Keshales’ thriller “Till Death” which co-stars Jason Sudeikis, Evangeline Lilly, Shea Whigham, Michael Pare and Amaury Nolasco. The project kicks off filming this month in Texas.

The story follows convicted felon Jimmy (Sudeikis) who gets early parole after serving twelve years for armed robbery. Upon his release from prison, he vows to give Annie (Lilly), his childhood love, now dying from cancer, the best last year of her life. [Source: Deadline]

“Dunkirk” actor Jack Lowden is attached to star as WWI English soldier and poet Siegfried Sassoon in Terence Davies’ upcoming biopic “Benediction”. Sassoon became a focal point for dissent within the armed forces when he made a lone protest against the continuation of the war. Mike Elliott is producing and shooting gets underway this year.
