The Black Phone
Filmmaker Scott Derrickson’s highly anticipated new horror feature “The Black Phone” is set to have its world premiere later this month at Fantastic Fest ahead of its planned January 28th theatrical release.
In the film, a 13-year-old boy has been abducted by a child killer and locked in a soundproof basement. He soon starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer’s previous victims. Ethan Hawke, James Ransone, Jeremy Davies and Madeleine McGraw star. [Source: Twitter]
Swan Song
Apple Original Films has set a December 17th cinema and Apple TV+ release date for its upcoming drama feature “Swan Song” starring Mahershala Ali, Glenn Close, Naomi Harris, and Awkwafina.
Benjamin Cleary helms the film set in the near future and follows a loving husband and father diagnosed with a terminal illness who is presented with an alternative solution by his doctor to shield his family from grief. [Source: Apple]
PlayStation 5
After weeks of beta testing, Sony will unleash a firmware patch tomorrow for all PlayStation 5 users that will unlock the internal storage expansion slot for compatible M.2 SSDs (which must include a heatsink).
Reviewer testing has indicated the best compatible models include the WD SN850, Seagate Firecuda 530, Samsung 980 Pro, and Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus. An installation video is also available on YouTube.
This Is The Night
James DeMonaco’s “This Is the Night”, an early 1980s Staten Island-set Italian-American family drama and love-letter to the power of cinema, has set a September 21st digital release. Naomi Watts, Frank Grillo and Bobby Cannavale star.

A couple of featurettes today. The first from Universal Pictures focuses on Lashana Lynch and Ana De Armas’ female spy characters from the new Bond film “No Time to Die”.
Also today, Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new featurette for Clint Eastwood’s upcoming new film “Cry Macho” which also stars Eduardo Minett and Dwight Yoakam.
