Paul Feig To Direct “Mamma Mia 3”

Universal Pictures

Eight years after “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” hit cinemas, talk of a third “Mamma Mia!” has been stirring again – especially from some of the film’s stars in recent interviews.

The film’s young star Amanda Seyfried has been one of the potential third film’s most vocal supporters, but other actors like Christine Baranski and Stellan Skarsgård have both teased they’ve heard very early rumblings.

Now, in a recent interview promoting “The Testament of Ann Lee,” that film’s director Mina Fastvold told Seyfried that she’d love to direct “Mamma Mia! 3”.

In an appearance on the On Film…With Kevin McCarthy podcast (via World of Reel), Seyfried interrupted her and appeared to confirm that her “The Housemaid” director, Paul Feig, already has the job.

Feig is currently very busy with a sequel to “The Housemaid” filming this Spring, a third “A Simple Favor” film in the works. No word as such on a third “Mamma Mia” production date, or whether actress Meryl Streep would return.

The first “Mamma Mia!” was a smash hit, making $610 million from a $52 million budget, while the second pulled in $402 million from a $75 million budget.
