For a good chunk of the past few months, actor Robert Pattinson has been busy filming Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune Messiah” which has been shooting in Budapest, Jordan and other areas.
Pattinson is expected to play Scytale, a Tleilaxu Face Dancer genetically engineered with the ability to mimic any human and under the control of the Bene Tleilax – an arcane, xenophobic sect of genetic manipulators who traffic in biological products.
Pattinson is currently out promoting Lynne Ramsay‘s “Die My Love” which finally hits cinemas this month. During a joint interview with Indiewire and co-star Jennifer Lawrence, Pattinson offered his first comments about the role and was discussing how the heat from the desert shoot was so exhausting, it allowed his brain to switch off:
“It’s actually really nice. When I was doing “Dune” it was so hot in the desert that I just couldn’t question anything. And it was so relaxing, like my brain actually wasn’t operating, I did not have a single functioning brain cell. And I was just listening to Denis [Villeneuve]: ‘Whatever you want!’… I actually found it relaxing. Now I’m taking that into other roles.”
‘Messiah’ kicks off events twelve years after those of “Dune” with Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) ruling as Emperor, married to Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) while maintaining a relationship with his concubine, Chani (Zendaya). Forces plot against him.
Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem and Anya Taylor-Joy will return while Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke star as Paul’s children. Linus Sandgren is cinematographer and Hans Zimmer returns to do the score. “Dune: Messiah” will hit cinemas on December 18th.
Pattinson will next film Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” early next year.
