Paramount Ditches Four Films, Adds More TMNT

Paramount Pictures

A new feature piece at THR has gone into how things are going with the film slate over at Paramount-Skydance in the wake of the merger.

Going into the new ‘bro culture’ of the executives behind the scenes, the studio’s slate is changing with awards bait and risky critical fare out. Instead, the focus is on highly commercial “down-the-middle IP” according to one source.

As a result, the new execs are also slashing multiple projects – either straight up scrapping them or selling them off.

The kids book adaptation “Eloise” was quietly sold off to Netflix, while the Colin Trevorrow-directed “Area 51” movie was cancelled. Ryan Reynolds was attached to produce both.

Also scrapped is the “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” spin-off project “Victor and Sam’s Day Off,” and the Miles Teller-led romantic sports drama “Winter Games”.

As previously reported, the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” spin-off TV series has been scrapped, but the company not only intends to release the second film in 2027 and are already in discussions about a potential third one in that series.

That will be joined by the previously reported on live-action ‘Turtles’ film in 2028.
