Oscars 2021 May Be Held At Union Station

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is said to be seriously considering holding this year’s Academy Awards at Los Angeles’ Union Station.

Deadline reports that it is the venue AMPAS and ABC favor at the moment for the April 25th broadcast. The Academy cannot stage the ceremony as usual in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood because of COVID considerations and social distancing requirements.

The Dolby is expected to be employed in some fashion, just not to hold crowds. The Academy has remained quiet so far on every aspect of its Oscarcast which is being produced by Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh.

Whatever they’re doing, the hope is to avoid the debacle of this year’s Golden Globes broadcast which was considered incredibly clumsy.

The talk comes as Los Angeles county movie theaters look set to re-open this weekend (with restrictions) as vaccination efforts are continuing across California and the rest of the United States.
