Filmmaker Sam Raimi has enlisted a boatload of talent for “50 States of Fright,” his upcoming horror anthology series for Jeffrey Katzenberg’s forthcoming shortform streaming service Quibi.
The cast includes Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Travis Fimmel (“Vikings”), Christina Ricci (“Monster”), Jacob Batalon (“Spiderman: Homecoming”), Ming-Na Wen (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”), Taissa Farmiga (“The Nun”), Asa Butterfield (“Sex Education”), John Marshall Jones (“Rectify”) and Ron Livingston (“Loudermilk”), who each will star in an episode.
The first season will explore stories based on urban legends from Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon and Washington taking viewers deeper into the horrors that lurk just beneath the surface of our country.
Brosnahan, Fimmel and Jones are in “The Golden Arm” based on a famous urban legend out of Michigan. The episode will be both directed and co-written by Sam Raimi himself and Ivan Raimi is also writing.
Farmiga and Livingston will co-star in the Iowa-set “Almost There” to be penned and directed by Scott Beck & Bryan Woods (“Haunt”). Ricci and Batalon will play lead roles in “Red Rum” which follows the storyline of Colorado’s scariest story. Wen will star in “America’s Largest Ball of Twine” based on a Kansas myth while Butterfield is the male lead in the Minnesota-set “Grey Cloud Island”.
Raimi and Debbie Liebling (“Pen 15”) executive produce along with Van Toffler, Tony DiSanto, Cody Zwieg, Barry Barclay, Tommy Coriale and Chris Mangano. Eduardo Sanchez, Alejandro Brugues, Yoko Okumura, Cate Devaney, Ryan Spindell, Adam Schindler, Brian Netto, Isa Mazzei & Daniel Goldhaber will all serve as directors.
