“Bad Boys For Life” writer Chris Bremner has reportedly been hired by Sony Pictures to write the next instalment in the “Men in Black” sci-fi comedy franchise.
Deadline broke the news, saying story details are unknown and no actors or director are currently attached at this time.
The plan is for Bremner to finish the script with original series star Will Smith being one of the first to receive it, in hopes he will reprise his role of Agent J.
While the character is slated to return, what’s not clear is the extent of his role – starring, supporting or something briefer. Smith reportedly won’t commit to anything until he’s happy with a script.
Bremner certainly has Smith’s eye – the pair having worked together on the past two “Bad Boys” films and having penned Smith’s upcoming feature “Fast & Loose”.
The franchise has earned $1.9 billion globally at the box office to date across the original three films and the decidedly less well-regarded “Men in Black: International” which saw Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson leading.
All the previous films were produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald with Steven Spielberg executive producing.
