“Ne Zha 2” Sets English-Language Release

CMC Pictures

A24 and CMC Pictures are set to bring an English-language version of Chinese animated mega-blockbuster “Ne Zha 2” to the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand on August 22nd.

Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh will have a lead voice role in the English version of the film which will be released in IMAX, 3D and other premium large formats.

Released in China earlier this year during the Lunar New Year holiday, the film became the world’s top-grossing animated film of all time and the fifth highest-grossing film worldwide overall – taking in an astonishing $2.2 billion.

Almost all of that revenue came from China. The film also sits with a strong 96% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 99% from audiences. Yeoh said in a statement:

“I’m honored to be part of Ne Zha 2, a landmark in Chinese animation and a powerful reminder of how universal our stories can be. Sharing this with audiences in English is such a joy, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the wonder, heart, spectacular artistry, and magic of this film on the big screen.”

Directed by Yang Yu, the story follows rebellious young demigod named Ne Zha who wrestles with immense powers and a destiny to face an ancient force bent on humanity’s destruction.
