Celebrated character actor Jared Harris (“Chernobyl,” “The Terror,” “Fringe”) has denied recent speculation that he’ll play Dr. Otto Octavius (aka Doctor Octopus) in the upcoming “Morbius” film for Sony Pictures and Marvel. The film hits cinemas on July 31st.
The film launched its trailer the other week, showcasing the lead character Dr. Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) – a scientist dying of a rare blood disease who accidentally turns himself into a vampire.
Harris role in the film remains unclear, in the trailer he’s seen as a concerned friend trying to help Morbius see the light (without killing him). This led to the Doc Ock speculation.
Speaking at the SAG awards however, Harris gave Variety a flat out denial when asked if his character is Doctor Octopus: “No. I love the imagination that the fans have, it’s exciting for me to think about the imagination that fans have. But yeah no, it’s not.”
In other Marvel casting talk, The Weekly Planet reports that “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Crazy Rich Asians” alum Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of Destin Daniel Cretton’s martial arts adventure “Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings” for Marvel Studios and Disney Pictures.
Yeoh previously had a cameo as Starhawk in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”. “Shang-Chi” will star Simu Liu as the titular hero along with Tony Leung and Awkwafina in undisclosed roles. That film opens February 12th 2021.
