MGM Lands GameStop Stock Story

MGM has reportedly acquired the screen rights to the book proposal “The Antisocial Network” which hails from best-selling author Ben Mezrich.

The story deals with last week’s news about a group of rag-tag investors from a Reddit community who banded together to put the squeeze on at least two hedge funds shorting the stock of beleaguered retailer Gamestop.

As a result, these amateur investors caused GameStop’s market value to increase rise over 1,700% in a few weeks. They began looking at other stocks deemed obsolete like Nokia and AMC to try and do the same, and then a major controversy arose over trading app RobinHood putting restrictions on certain stocks.

The story is only about a week old, and still unfolding, but Mezrich and his reps took the proposal on the market at the end of the week and by Friday night MGM had swooped in.

Mezrich penned “The Accidental Billionaires” which became David Fincher’s “The Social Network”. That film’s producer Michael DeLuca will return for this and will be joined by Aaron Ryder (“Jackman”). Mezrich also wrote “Bringing Down The House” which became the movie “21”.
