Following universal acclaim for his indie animated feature “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On,” filmmaker Dean Fleischer Camp has been hired to direct a live-action/CG hybrid take on 2002’s “Lilo & Stitch” for Disney.
In addition Chris Kekaniokalani Bright is in final negotiations to pen the script. ‘Stitch’ was first put into development back in 2018 with Mike Van Waes writing the screenplay.
The Hawaii-set story follows the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction.
Pursuing aliens, social workers and the theme of family bonds figure into the proceedings. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are producing.
