It was unlikely but now it seems certain – don’t expect a second season of HBO’s “Watchmen” as series showrunner Damon Lindelof indicates he’s exited the series.
Speaking with USA Today this week, Lindelof tells the paper that he’s “told the story he wants to tell and has no interest in a second season”. He has “given his blessing” to HBO should it want to pursue a new installment with another writer-producer.
But HBO’s programming chief Casey Bloys made it clear this week that it’s unlikely to happen, saying at the TCA press tour: “It would be hard to imagine doing it without Damon involved in some way.”
The series earned some of the best reviews of the year when it aired late last year, pulling in critical review numbers matched or exceeded only by the likes of the second season of “Fleabag,” the fourth season of “The Expanse” and the limited series “Chernobyl”.
