Rian Johnson has reportedly been commissioned to write a story outline for a “Knives Out” follow-up in the wake of the success of the first film reports Showbiz411.
Not only a hit with critics, the first film was a box-office smash too – racking up $247.5 million from a $40 million budget and sitting at $130.2 million domestically which makes it the third highest-grossing original North American movie of 2019 behind only “Us” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”.
The new entry would follow the Agatha Christie formula and so will see Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc on a whole new case with all new characters and a whole new crime. Johnson himself admits the first film came together very easily and quickly, and has previously teased a follow-up telling THR:
“I don’t know about a Looper sequel, but a Knives Out one, instead. It would be so great to get together with Daniel again on another Benoit Blanc mystery, with a new cast and new location, just like Christie did with Poirot.”
With Craig’s Bond commitments over and Johnson’s commitments to the “Star Wars” film franchise still unclear as the studio works out what to do with those movies, this is looking like a good possibility and Johnson has reportedly indicated a keenness to get moving on this quick – in fact a new film could be out in cinemas by late next year.
