Josh Brolin is in final negotiations to star alongside Glen Powell in the new adaptation of Stephen King novel “The Running Man” at Paramount Pictures.

Beloved British filmmaker Edgar Wright is directing the feature and co-wrote the script with Michael Bacall. Katy O’Brian (“Loves Lies Bleeding”) will co-star in the film which will shoot in London early next year.

Penned under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, the 1982 book was set in 2025 in America under a totalitarian regime that uses violent game shows to placate the disenfranchised masses.

One desperate man, needing money for his sick daughter, joins the most popular show in which teams of killers hunt down contestants. The longer one survives, the more money that person makes.

But as the game show’s producers and killers will find out, this desperate man will break all the rules and expose the show’s dark secrets. Powell will play the man, O’Brian is a fellow contestant, while Brolin stars as the ruthless producer of the game show.

The property was previously adapted to the big screen in 1987 as an Arnold Schwarzenegger-led film. Simon Kinberg, Nira Park and Wright are producing and the film opens November 21st 2025.
