Liam Neeson is set to star in “Die Hard with a Vengeance” and “Armageddon” writer Jonathan Hensleigh’s action-adventure feature “The Ice Road” for CODE Entertainment and Envision Media Arts.
Said to be inspired in part by Henri-Georges Clouzot’s iconic 1953 cinematic classic “The Wages of Fear” (which itself was remade by William Friedkin as “Sorcerer”), the film has Neeson playing a ‘big-rig’ ice road driver who, after a remote diamond mine collapses in the far northern regions of Canada, must lead an impossible rescue mission over a frozen ocean to save the trapped miners.
Contending with thawing waters and a massive storm, the team of drivers discover the real threat is one they never saw coming. Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt, Eugene Musso, Lee Nelson and David Tish will produce.
Hensleigh says in a statement: “I’ve never been able to shake Clouzot’s Wages of Fear since I saw it as a kid because of the character emphasis during the action, and The Ice Road is in that tradition. And when it comes to bringing intelligence and soul to an action-adventure film, Liam Neeson is incomparable.”
Filming kicks off mid-January. Hensleigh previously directed both “The Punisher” (the Thomas Jane one) and “Kill the Irishman”.
