Currently out promoting his roles in “The Black Phone 2” out this weekend and “Regretting You” opening next weekend, young actor Mason Thames has revealed that filming on the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” sequel is moving faster than many are probably expecting.
Dean DeBlois directed this past Summer’s live-action take on 2010’s animated “How to Train Your Dragon” which pulled in $635.9 million worldwide on a $150 million budget.
Even before it opened, Universal Pictures was already confident enough that by April thet greenlit a sequel based on the second animated film in the series and set a June 11th 2027 release.
Speaking with Coming Soon this past week, Thames revealed that right after his press commitments for his new films wraps, he flies to London to begin production on “How to Train Your Dragon 2” in late October in the UK:
“I get about three days and then I go. Three days is enough to pack and get one good night’s rest and then I’m off and I’m so excited for that.”
Thames plays Hiccup in the film alongside, Nico Parker as Astrid, Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast, Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, Brownyn James as Ruffnut, Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut, and Peter Serafinowicz as Spitelout.
Writer/director Dean DeBlois is expected to return for the sequel.
