HBO Max is in early development on a series centered on Batman villain The Penguin. The series would be a spinoff of Matt Reeves’ upcoming feature film “The Batman” which will open in cinemas in March.

Colin Farrell plays the Penguin, in this version a crime lord named Oswald Cobblepot, in the movie. The actor has been approached about continuing the role in the series but no deal is in place yet.

Reeves and Dylan Clark, who are directing and producing the film, will be executive producers on the project. with Lauren LeFranc attached to write a script. The series would focus on Cobblepot’s rise through the Gotham City underworld.

This marks the second planned spinoff of “The Batman” for HBO Max, the first being one about the Gotham City police which scored a straight to series order in July last year.

Warner Bros. TV and DC Entertainment will produce.
