HBO has reportedly won a fierce bidding war for the rights to a limited series based on this year’s highly acclaimed Bong Joon Ho film “Parasite” with Bong and “Succession” showrunner and “The Big Short” helmer Adam McKay teaming on the project.
No deals are yet in place and it’s not clear if this will be an English-language remake or a potential follow-up to the film with new or returning characters.
The film follows two families: the Park Family, who are the picture of aspirational wealth, and the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. The dark comedy about class follows how the cunning Kim children and later the parents expediently install themselves into the lives of the Parks.
The movie has racked up a massive $130 million globally, scored plenty of “year’s best film” honors, and could well be one of the incredibly rare non-English films to score a Best Picture Oscar nomination next week.
Bong and McKay will executive produce the English-language limited series.
