Hamm’s “Fletch” Reboot Targets Spring Start

Actor Jon Hamm has confirmed that Miramax’s planned reboot of the “Fletch” franchise, in which he’ll star, will commence filming in the Spring in New York City.

Chevy Chase played the quick-witted investigative reporter Irwin M. ‘Fletch’ Fletcher in the 1985 original and its 1989 sequel “Fletch Lives”. Golden Globe winning Hamm was cast in the role in July this year in the reboot which has been in the works, on and off, for years.

Speaking with Collider, Hamm says the new film will be heavily influenced by the novels:

“We’re hoping to start shooting in the springtime, in New York City – you know, fingers crossed. We’ve got an excellent script, and an excellent director [Greg Mottola, ‘Superbad’] attached, and we’re going to start casting soon. It’s big shoes to fill, obviously. But as I’ve mentioned in previous conversations, it’s a reboot, it’s not a remake, so we’re going back to the novels and really breaking it down but hopefully bringing what people want to see. So, fingers crossed!.”

The new take will be penned by Zev Borow (“Chuck”) and will be based on Gregory McDonald’s second book in the series “Confess Fletch”.

In that novel, a mysterious chain of events sees Fletch finding himself in the middle of multiple murders – one of which pins him as a prime suspect. He also has to find his fiancee’s stolen art collection, acquired after her father goes missing and is presumed dead.
