Looks like someone may be barking his way to box-office glory.
IFC has announced that they plan to expand the October 3rd theatrical run of Ben Leonberg’s SXSW PG-13 horror hit “Good Boy,” which will now get a wide release.
The company had planned a limited release run for the 72-minute title that unfolds entirely from the point of view of a dog whose owner appears to become possessed by something sinister.
Directed by Ben Leonberg, who uses his own dog in the film rather than a trained stage dog, the film launched its first trailer on August 18th. The trailer has racked up 1 million views since, with a further 1.5 million views via IGN’s account.
In addition, Google searches for “Does the dog in Good Boy die?” spiked by more than 2,000% with many users concerned about the dog’s ultimate fate.
IFC had success releasing both “Late Night with the Devil” and “In a Violent Nature” in wide release last year, with both titles hitting up to 1,400 screens each.
