Ghibli’s “Earwig,” Netflix’s “Elephant” Set Casts

Noah Jupe, Pixie Davies, Sian Clifford, Natasia Demetriou, Dawn French, Brian Tyree Henry, Benedict Wong, Aasif Mandvi, Mandy Patinkin, Miranda Richardson, Cree Summer and Lorraine Toussaint will lead the voice cast of Netflix’s new CG animated feature “The Magician’s Elephant”.

Based on Newbery Award winner Kate DiCamillo’s novel of the same title, adapted by Martin Hynes (“Toy Story 4”) and helmed by Wendy Rogers, the follows a young man (Jupe) searching for his long-lost sister Adel (Pixie Davies).

He crosses paths with a fortune teller who tells him he must find a mysterious elephant and the magician (Wong) who will conjure it.

That’s not the only animated film setting up its voice cast today. Also locking talent is “Earwig and the Witch,” Goro Miyazaki’s new film which serves as the first CG animated feature from Studio Ghibli.

Richard E. Grant, Kacey Musgraves, Dan Stevens, Taylor Paige Henderson, Pandora Colin, JB Blanc, Logan Hannan, Summer Jenkins and Vivienne Rutherford are all lending their voices to the film’s English-language dub.

The movie, inspired by Diana Wynne Jones’ book of the same name, follows a headstrong orphan who lives with a selfish witch but then embarks on a journey meet her mother who has magical powers. Upon her trek, she discovers a world of spells and potions, and a mysterious song that may help her in finding her lost family.
