Anna Faris (“Scary Movie”) and Eugenio Derbez (“Instructions Not Included”) are set to star in a remake of the 1987 Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell romantic comedy “Overboard” at MGM, Pantelion and Lionsgate.
Garry Marshall directed the original which starred Hawn as a selfish heiress who got amnesia when she fell off her yacht. Russell portrayed a carpenter who ultimately fell in love with her.
The new take sees a reversal of the leading roles and follows a spoiled playboy from one of Mexico’s wealthiest families (Derbez) who falls overboard off his yacht. He’s then convinced by Faris’ single, working-class mom that he’s her husband.
Rob Greenberg (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Bob Fisher (“We’re the Millers”) co-direct the new version which begins shooting this May in Vancouver.
