Paramount Pictures and Allspark Pictures are in early negotiations with the creator of Netflix’s “The End of the F-ing World,” Jonathan Entwistle, to develop a “Power Rangers” reboot.
First emerging as a kids TV series in the 1990s, and turned into a film extension of the show in 1995, the property was dormant for a while until 2017 when Lionsgate released the Dean Israelite-directed “Saban’s Power Rangers”.
That film was a costly flop – grossing $142 million on a $100 million budget. However, the franchise’s tie-in merchandise did strong enough business the property is still seen as quite viable. Hasbro and Paramount snagged the rights back to the property earlier this year.
Patrick Burleigh (“Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway”) was previously tapped to pen the script, no word on how much of his stuff will stay.
