Don’t Expect “Andor” S2 Until 2024

The twelve-episode first season of “Star Wars: Andor” is set to have its big debut this coming Wednesday with the second (and final) season already ordered.

However, don’t expect that second season for a while. The Wrap recently spoke with showrunner Tony Gilroy about the series who revealed he still has quite some way to go before he’s finished with “Andor”. In fact, his commitment will see him sticking to the “Star Wars” universe for another two years:

“I have two more years to go. We start shooting in November on Part 2. And I don’t know if … Our past pattern was two years, but I mean, I’ll be on… We’ll shoot from November to August. And then our post[-production] last time was about a year.”

That would fit with the series, which began production of its first season in November 2020 and wrapped in September last year before arriving on screens September 2022. Thus a mid-late 2024 release looks likely for the second season, but Disney hasn’t announced any official date at this time.

That is one reason why Gilroy isn’t talking about anything post-“Andor” for some time, his approach to work is much like Chris Nolan in that he focuses on one project at a time:

“This is the most home I’ve ever made. I’ve always had a very nimble approach to this. I never take a job in front of another job. I’ve always just done one thing at a time and moved around and never made a company or got a letterhead or I never had a production deal or anything. This is the longest I’ve ever spent anywhere.”

The first three episodes of “Andor” debut on Wednesday, with the rest airing weekly through until November 23rd.
