Steven DeKnight, former showrunner of the Netflix three-season version of Marvel’s “Daredevil,” has commented on the recent news of the franchise’s reboot being overhauled.
Last week came the major story that Marvel Studios is reportedly set to do a full reset of the creative elements on the series almost midway through production.
Fewer than half of the show’s planned eighteen-episode run had been shot before the strikes halted filming and the studio opted to let go of its directors and head writers.
In their place will come a significant creative revamp with a more regular television-style structure including a potential showrunner. DeKnight responded to a fan on Twitter who suggested DeKnight would be happy that the new “Daredevil” is suffering. He says that’s not the case:
“I am not happy the show is scrapped and have consistently stated the opposite. However I AM delighted that they finally realized you need an actual showrunner who’s a writer to make a series work.”
It’s expected certain scenes and episodes that were already finished filming pre-strike will be retained whilst further serialized elements will be added when filming is able to resume.
