Filmmaker Taika Waititi appeared at the BAFTA Tea Party last night where Variety asked him about when filming on “Thor: Love and Thunder” will get underway.
According to Waititi, pre-production will get underway in April in Sydney with filming to commence sometime around August. At present he’s not sure if production is being affected by the horrific Australian bushfire emergency crisis across the country.
Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman and Waititi reprise their roles in the new film. Before that gets underway, the film shoot for “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will take place in Sydney in the early part of this year.
In an interview with THR, the film’s director Destin Daniel Cretton was asked why he chose to do the project to which he said it was about having a superhero with an Asian face on screen:
“I grew up without a superhero to look up to. I gravitated to Spider-Man when I was a kid, primarily because he had a mask covering his face and I could imagine myself under that mask. I would love to give my son a superhero to look up to. I feel very privileged to be a part of telling that story.”
Previously Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said the film will feature a “98% Asian cast”.
